What progress really looks like — and how we measure it

Plenty of tutoring sites promise grade jumps. We’d rather explain exactly how progress is created and measured, and let the evidence from your own child’s work speak.

How we measure progress

A diagnostic baseline

The first lesson establishes where the student actually is — topic by topic against their specification — so progress is measured from evidence, not impressions.

Specification-marked practice

Progress is checked against real past-paper questions marked to the board’s own mark scheme, because that is how the final exam will judge the student.

Periodic progress reviews

Families receive regular reviews: what has been covered, how performance is trending against the target grade, and what the plan is next.

Honest course corrections

If progress stalls, we say so and change the approach — more frequent lessons, a different emphasis, or occasionally the honest advice that tutoring isn’t the constraint.

Setting honest expectations

  • Progress depends on the starting point, the time before exams, and the work a student puts in between lessons. A student starting six months out can achieve substantially more than one starting six weeks out.
  • Improvement usually shows first in method and confidence, then in timed-paper scores. Grade movement follows — it is the output, not the input.
  • We do not promise specific grades, because nobody honestly can. What we commit to is specialist teaching against the right specification, measured openly, with honest reporting to the family.

If you'd like to understand what realistic progress could look like for your child specifically — given their subjects, board, current level and timeline — that is exactly what the free consultation is for.

Discuss realistic goals for your child

Tell us about the student’s subjects, exam board and goals. We’ll listen, advise honestly and propose a tutor match — with no obligation to continue.
